Sheryll Lillian Riessen, age 70, of Battle Creek, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s in Sioux City.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa with the Reverend Randy D. Cormeny officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Sheryll Lillian Riessen, age 70, of Battle Creek, went to her heavenly home on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s in Sioux City.
Sheryll was born in Battle Creek, Iowa on November 5, 1943 to Thomas and Doris (Thomas) Iwen. Sheryll was a lifetime resident of Battle Creek, Iowa. he was united in marriage to Ronald Riessen on October 1, 1961.
She worked as a farm wife for 23 years, owned and operated the R & S Café, was a manager and regional manager for several convenience stores, worked at WinnaVegas in the check cashing department for many years, and she worked in the kitchen at Willow Dale Wellness Village. Presently she was secretary and treasurer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, where she was also a member of Martha’s Circle.
Sheryll enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and crafts. Most of all, she loved spending time with family, visiting, playing cards and marbles, coloring, doing puzzles, and reading books.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald, sons, Terry (Heidi) Riessen of Omaha, NE and Todd (Traci) Riessen of Battle Creek, Iowa. 7 grandchildren, Brady (Katie), Shaina (Jordan Pojar), Clint, Becca, Emilee, Hana, and Olivia. Granddaughter-in-law Courtney Riessen, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Irene Putnam (Bernie Steif), Elaine Fitch, Lois (Peter) Wolterman, Inez Biery, Yvonne (Richard) Ewoldt, Sisters-in-law, Lois (Marvin) Jensen, and JoAnn Riessen and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, mother–in-law, father-in-law, grandson Gavin Riessen, 4 brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and special friends, Art and Grace Frandsen.
