Norman Wayne Van Houten, age 86 of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly of Danbury, Iowa) passed away October 6, 2024, at The Cypress Midtown in Omaha, Nebraska.  

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Billy Bergman will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa.

Norman “Norm” Wayne Van Houten was born on the family farm near Danbury, Iowa, on August 6, 1938, to Lloyd and Helen (Devine) Van Houten. He received his education and graduated from Danbury High School in 1956.

On June 15, 1958, Norman married LaVon Belstene at the Baptist Church in Arthur, Iowa. Norman worked alongside his dad on the family farm and eventually took over raising hogs and cattle. He also worked at IBP in Dakota City, Nebraska, before moving to Omaha, Nebraska, in 1989 to work as Maintenance at the Martinique Apartments where he worked for over 30 years. 

Norman was a baptized member of the Baptist Church near Arthur. He used to love riding horses and collected several horse figurines through the years along with his tractor collection. His greatest accomplishment was being a loving and devote husband caring for LaVon during her several years of ailing health.  

Survivors include three daughters: Kim Simmons of Omaha, NE, Cindy (Steve) Vaughn of Blencoe, IA and Brenda Van Houten of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Chasity (Jarrod) Healy of Turin, IA, Brandon Albers of Onawa, IA, Sabrina Simmons of Omaha, NE and CeCelia Jones (Omar Callejas) of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Tucker, and Ryder Healy of Turin, IA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

Norman was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Helen Van Houten; his wife of 52 years LaVon Van Houten; son Bradley Van Houten; brother Clifton (Joyce) Van Houten; and twin sister Norma Van Houten.
