Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa with Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiating. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service with the family present from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Audrey Ann Beck was born April 9, 1932 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Milton and Carrie (Svendsen) Schmidt. She attended Battle Center rural school for 4 years, then finished her education at Cushing Consolidated School. She attended Buena Vista College and then taught 4th grade in Galva, Iowa for 2 years.
Audrey married John D. Beck on Nov. 23, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. She taught at Danbury, Iowa and Mapleton, Iowa before moving to Grand Island, NE in 1974.
Her interests were genealogy, crossword puzzles, and her family.
Survivors are her husband, John Beck, of Grand Island, NE; one son, Brian (Colleen) Beck of Battle Creek, IA, four daughters, Cindy Huato of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Denise (Robert) Bjorholm of Battle Creek, Iowa; Diane (Dale) Manchester of Kearney, NE; Cheryl Richardson of Duncan NE and son-in-law James Richardson of Grand Island, NE.; Sisters, Marian Modrell of Battle Creek, IA and Elaine Holdren of Omaha, NE, sisters-in-law, Gail Lasher of Holstein, IA and Lillian Beck of Missouri Valley, IA, 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Schmidt, her stepmother Myrtle Schmidt, and a grandson, Ryan Beck.
