Jo Ann (Bye) Scott, the daughter of Shelby and Mabel (Lincoln) Bye, was born on September 15, 1932, in Arthur, Iowa. She grew up in Odebolt, Iowa and received her education from Odebolt Elementary and High School graduating with the class of 1950.
On October 15, 1950, Jo Ann was united in marriage to James “Jim” Scott, Jr. in the Odebolt Presbyterian Church. To this union three children were born: Marcy Jo, Jeffrey James, and John Arthur. Jo Ann cherished her role as a stay-at-home mom, raising their children and lending a hand to Jim on the farm. She spent many days nurturing her garden and canning her harvest, collecting eggs from her chickens, or driving the tractor out in the fields.
Family meant everything to Jo Ann. When her children were young, the family spent many enjoyable days camping and fishing. As the years passed and their family grew, Jo Ann and Jim kept busy attending their grandchildren’s events and occasionally visiting the casino. Jo Ann loved to cook and bake, and her children and grandchildren will always remember her White House cookies, chocolate chip cookies, skinny pancakes, and delicious pies.
Jo Ann was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, where she participated in UMW, Tri-M’s, and the church’s Bible study group. She was also involved with the Eastern Star, serving in various offices over the years, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary, where she held numerous positions. Jo Ann was active in several ladies’ groups and card clubs throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
