Fern Arlene Dorfman, age 88, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
          

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Chad Lierman will officiate. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., February 6, 2014, at Logan Park Cemetery, of Sioux City, Iowa. The Christensen ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.christensenvanhouten.com 

 

Fern Arlene Dorfman was born in Washta, Iowa on May 15, 1925. One of nine children born to Elmer and Viola (McCoy) Cipperley. Fern attended school at Washta and graduated from high school in 1943. After high school Fern moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she worked at the Wind Charger factory.

While in Sioux City she met David Dorfman, who was stationed at the Air Force base. The two were married on December 22, 1964 and to this union a son was born Michael David.

Fern worked side by side with her husband who ran a coin and stamp business, until his death in November of 1999. In 2001 Fern moved to Ida Grove, Iowa. 

Fern enjoyed all kinds of wildlife (birds) and nature, she will be remembered by her family as a good listener with great advice, in her younger years she like to sew and knit, and she loved a good meal.

Her pride and joy was her family, her son, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving son, Michael David Dorfman of Clermont, Florida; grandchildren, Boe Dorfman of Clermont, Florida; Michael (Elyse) Dorfman of Clermont, Florida;       great-grandchildren, Olivia, Joshua, Brighton, and Caleb Dorfman; numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, David Dorfman; brothers, Earl Cipperley, Marlin Cipperley, Morris Cipperley, and LeRoy Cipperley; sisters, Margaret Goettsch, Helen Kaus, Lela Lage, Ruth Hunt; nieces, Jean Roberson, Wanda Paska, and Pauline Tomlinson.
