In Memory of Marvin Edgar Blume
Marvin E. Blume, age 75, of Battle Creek, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Committal Services will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Marvin Edgar Blume was born on May 17, 1938 to Edgar and Rosalie (Green) Blume. Marvin attended grade school in Charter Oak until moving out on the farm to help his grandfather. When he was old enough, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed over sea’s in Germany for two years.
Upon arrival back to the states, Marvin met Ruth Jane Hedberg and the couple were married on February 13, 1960 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Schleswig, Iowa, where Marvin trucked for Schleswig Trucking Transfer.
The couple moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a short time where Marvin took a job at an Omaha Grain Company. In 1963 the couple moved back to Battle Creek, Iowa and made their home. Marvin and Ruth were blessed with four sons, Harold, Carl, Keith, Kevin.
In his later years Marvin owned and operated Blume Fencing. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also liked crafting and tinkering, traveling, and spend time outdoors fishing.
Left to cherish his memory are his four sons, Harold (Karen) Blume of Battle Creek, Iowa; Carl (Sharon) Blume of Schleswig, Iowa; Keith (Barb) Blume of Battle Creek, Iowa; and Kevin (Charity) Blume of Galva, Iowa; Twelve grandchildren, Michael Grimes, Donald Grimes, Rachel Pollard, Carl Blume Jr., Matthew Blume, Kayla Blume, Jennifer Jacobsen, Richard Schwery, Crystal Romero Cano, Andrew Blume, Ashley Blume, and Brent Blume; twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Julie) Blume of Spencer, Iowa; and several other family members and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ruth.
