In Memory of Daniel Williamson

Daniel Williamson, age 86, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

            Private family services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, with The Reverend Shari O'Bannon officiating.  Burial will follow in Early Union Cemetery, Early, Iowa, with military rites by McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. 

            Born July 31, 1926, in Battle Creek, Iowa, Daniel Dean Williamson was the son of Clay and Lora (Thomas) Williamson.  Upon graduating from Battle Creek High School, Dan joined the United States Navy and became a cook in the Sea B's.  He was honorably discharged on June 7, 1946.

            He attended Morningside College and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1952.  Dan was a member of the Iowa Bar Association for 57 years, having retired in 2009.  He practiced law in Early, Battle Creek, and Ida Grove.

            Dan was a member of the McNamara-Post No. 61 of the American Legion for 65 years. 

            Survivors include his wife, Mary; five children, Marty (Debra) Williamson of Fremont, NE, Melissa (Tim) Calahan of Avon, IN, Melinda (Brad) Huseman of St. Louis, MO, Kelly (Leslie) Williamson of Stamford, TX, and Kyle Williamson of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren, Jason, Emily, Kathrine, Allison, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Madison; a great-grandchild, Connor; and a sister, Wanda Jeppeson of Newell.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark; and a brother, Gordon Williamson.
