In Memory of James Howard Brandes
James Howard Brandes, age 66, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at his Residence of Battle Creek, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Veterans Center Park of Correctionville, Iowa. The Reverend Sheryl K. Ashley will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. Military Rites conducted by the Mumford-Moon Post No. 79 of the American Legion and VFW post No. 1750 of Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Veterans Center Park of Correctionville on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. James Howard Brandes was born on July 19, 1947 in Sonora, California to Henry and Frances (York) Brandes.
James enlisted in the ARMY and served in the Vietnam War. After the war James worked various jobs: service station, road construction, and a heavy equipment operator while he live in Amarillo, Texas. James then moved to Oklahoma and started as a truck driver and worked at a dairy farm and did some janitorial work. James met Vida McCommon and the couple were married in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1973. James welcomed two step sons, Dennis and Timothy. The couple was later blessed with son, James Jr. and a daughter, Frances.
The couple later parted ways but still remained close friends. James became disabled in 1992. He moved to Battle Creek, Iowa 2002. James enjoyed bowling, fishing, stamp collecting and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, James Jr. (Joy) Brandes of Correctionville, Iowa; Frances Brandes of Correctionville, Iowa; Grandchildren: Dennis, Zachary, Tazarine, Timothy, Tamara, Theo and Allison, step-sons, Dennis (Anna) Canfield of Duncan, Oklahoma; Timothy (LeAnn) Canfield of Duncan Oklahoma, family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Frances Brandes; three brothers and two sisters.
