In Memory of Carol Jean Schmidt

Carol J. Schmidt, age 76, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Burial will follow at the Holstein Cemetery, of Holstein, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Carol Jean Schmidt was born on June 10, 1938 in Holstein, Iowa to Albert Luverne and Mildred Leonard. Carol grew up on a farm North of Holstein, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Holstein High School in 1956.

Carol met Roger Schmidt and the couple were united into marriage on February 16, 1957 in the United Methodist Church of Holstein, Iowa. The couple were blessed with four children; Kirk, Kyle, Kelly, and Kory.

Carol went on to further her education and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Carol retired after being a nurse for 25 years.

Carol enjoyed bowling, crocheting, playing cards, knitting, quilting, crafts and baking. She also loved to watch the Minnesota Twins and any Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Left to cherish Carol memory are her loving children, Kirk Schmidt of Ida Grove, Iowa; Kyle (Monica) Schmidt of Danbury, Iowa; Kelly Harris of Battle Creek, Iowa; Kory Schmidt of Ida Grove, Iowa; grandchildren, Brandon Sohm, Jason Schmidt, Chantelle Hammer, Jessica Schmidt, Angela Schmidt, Katrina Schmidt, Miranda Stowe, Hilary Stowe, Sara Meyer, Rachel Meyer, Danielle Meyer, Austin Schmidt, Alex Schmidt, Aiden Schmidt, Amy Saunders; great- grandchildren, Hali Schmidt, Aden Schmidt, Gracie Schmidt, Olivia Bjorholm, Owen Bjorholm and Richard James Bush; brother, Albert Luverne, Jr. (Sandy) Leonard of Quimby, Iowa; sister, Judith (Don) Hansen of Algona, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Terry Rupert; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Luverne and Mildred Leonard and sister, Janice Rupert.
