In Memory of Vickie Elaine Carlson

Vickie Elaine Carlson, age 63, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center of Omaha, Nebraska.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa.  The Rev. Morris Hurd will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Christensen  - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Vickie Elaine Burrow was born on October 29, 1951, and was adopted by Don and Dorothy Burrow of Early, Iowa. Her father passed away in 1953 and her mother passed away in 1956. Vickie and her cousin Carolyn (Kelly) were raised by their Grandmother, Emma Burrow. Russell and Margaret Teague helped out as Emma couldn’t drive. They lived on the farm near Early, Iowa.

Vickie was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church of Early, Iowa. Vickie attended school and graduated from Early High School in 1969.

On May 5, 1973, Vickie married Ronald Carlson of Ida Grove, Iowa. They made their home on an acreage east of Arthur. To this union three children were born: Dustin, Nickolas and Kristin.

Vickie loved animals. She was surrounded by many dogs and cats, but she especially loved her little flock of chickens. Every stray animal became a pet and was well cared for.

Vickie passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Ron Carlson of Odebolt, Iowa; children, Dustin Carlson of Odebolt, Iowa; Nick Carlson and special friend Katie of Early, Iowa; Kristin Carlson of Odebolt, Iowa; grandchildren, Jaden, Dale, Hunter and Trinity; cousin/sister, Carolyn “Kelly” Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; aunt, Margaret Teague of Auburn, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Arlene Wonder, Shirley Havener, LuAnn Smith, and Marilyn (Dan) Dose, all of Ida Grove, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Dorothy Burrow; grandmother, Emma Burrow; parents-in-law, Guy and Virginia Carlson; uncle, Russell Teague; brothers-in-law James Wonder and Roger Williams; and nephew, Kevin Smith.
