Born May 30, 1926, on a farm in Grant Township near Battle Creek, Iowa, Dale Weaver Chisholm was the son of Weaver and Lydia (Hess) Chisholm. He received his education at a rural school near his home and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943. After completing his education, Dale entered the United States Army, serving from 1944-46 as an infantryman in the Philippines during World War II. He was honored with several medals, including two bronze battle stars and was a member of McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion.
On February 18, 1948, Dale was united in marriage to Freda Nielsen at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. The couple farmed near Battle Creek until 1958, when they began farming north of Ida Grove. They were blessed with three children, Stan, Keith, and Sheryl.
Dale accepted employment with the Ida Grove Post Office in 1964. In 1976, he and Freda made their home in Lake City, where Dale continued to work for the postal service. They returned to Ida Grove in 1990, and Dale worked for Siouxland Regional Transit System as a taxi driver.
Dale will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, playing 500, and going prairie dog shooting.
