Phyllis Mae Davis was born on February 14, 1952, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Frank and Effel (Kock) Hein. Phyllis grew up on the farm south of Battle Creek. She was baptized on September 14, 1952 and confirmed in her faith on May 29, 1966 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek. Phyllis attended school in Battle Creek and graduated with the class of 1970.
Phyllis married Larry Sharkey on August 8, 1970, and to this union a daughter was born, Melissa. The couple later parted ways.
On May 14, 1973, Phyllis was united into marriage to Gilbert Davis in Elk Point, South Dakota. Phyllis welcomed Gilbert’s five children, Gwyanda, Ned, Gailen, Wayne, and Susie. Gilbert welcomed daughter Melissa and the family made their home in Odebolt, Iowa. The family later purchased an acreage north of Arthur, Iowa. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Faith and Nicole.
The family suffered a great lost on May 4, 2003; when Nicole’s (Nici) life was claimed by a fire.
Gilbert and Phyllis started a trucking company named GL Davis and Golden Iowa. Phyllis helped take care of livestock on the farm and dispatch but her true love for traveling put her behind the wheel of an eighteen wheeler. Phyllis had a million mile safety award under her belt and was working on another until she fell ill in 2006.
Phyllis was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Wall Lake. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading the enquirer, trucking, traveling, animals especially her rat terrier Dixie, her grandchildren, and spending time with her family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Effel Hein; daughter, Nicole “Nici” Davis; one infant sister; sister, Evelyn (Virgil) Bruhn; brother, Herb (Rose) Hein; sons-in-law, Jim Snyder and Randy Harker; and brother-in-law, Leland Newman.
