Leslie Sharkey, age 59, of Sac City, Iowa, died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
                Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes.  The Reverend Don Pobanz will officiate, with burial to follow in Cory Grove Cemetery, rural Sac City, Iowa.  Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City. 
                Born September 5, 1953, in Ida County, Iowa, Leslie James Sharkey was the son of Earl and Margaret (Shanks) Sharkey.  He grew up and received his education in the Ida Grove and Arthur areas.  He served in the United States Army from 1974-77. 
                On December 15, 1979, Les was united in marriage to Cindy Freese in Ida Grove, Iowa.  The couple was blessed with two children, Dustin and Amber.  In 1984, the family settled in Sac City, Iowa, where Les drove truck for Ellerbrock Trucking.  He eventually bought his own truck and L & C Trucking began.
                Les will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He lived his life the way he wanted and enjoyed many different activities along the way.  He very much enjoyed his career as a truck driver and loved riding his Harley.  His grandchildren brought him special joy.  Les was one-of-a-kind and will be truly missed by all who were touched by him. 
                Survivors include his wife, Cindy; two children, Dustin (Brittany) Sharkey of Elk Point, SD, and Amber Sharkey of Sac City; three grandchildren, Hunter, Kayla, and Jackson Sharkey; two brothers, Kenny Sharkey of Algona, and Chuck (Dee) Sharkey of Arcadia; three sisters, Shirley (Gary) Danielson of Jefferson, LaVon (Art) Houk of Arthur, and Janet (Craig) Fitch of Battle Creek; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
                He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Larry Sharkey.
