Verona L. Steuk, age 94, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 03, 2016 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal Services will be held at the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 02, 2016 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.christensenvanhouten.com 

Verona L. (Schug) Steuk the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Schwenk) Schug, was born on September 15, 1921, in Grant Township, Iowa. She was baptized into her faith on October 9, 1921 and later confirmed on April 14, 1935 in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Grant Township.

Verona was raised on the farm with her brother and sisters. She attended Grant Township Country School thru the 8th grade and later went on to get her GED in 1969.

On December 22, 1940, Verona was united into marriage to Clifton Steuk at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Grant Township, Iowa. The couple were blessed with four children: Jerald, Curtis, Diane, and Jon. The family made their home on a farm outside of Arthur, Iowa.

 Verona worked at Farm Bureau for 25 years as a secretary and book keeper until she retired. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Verona enjoyed her rose garden, shopping, collecting tea pots, crocheting and sewing, but most of all she treasured her family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerald (Ellen) Steuk of Ida Grove, Iowa, Diane (Jim) Snyder of Bridgeport, Texas, and Jon (Paula) Steuk of Early, Iowa; grandchildren, Jim (Rhonda) Steuk of Denison, Iowa, Mike Steuk of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Pam Steuk of Ida Grove, Iowa, Reed Snyder of Bridgeport, Texas, Andrea (Tony) Bengford of Sioux City, Iowa, Jessica Steuk of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Jennifer Steuk of Atlanta, Georgia; eleven great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, Elmer (Geri) Susie of Cushing, Iowa and Vincent Susie of Cushing, Iowa, and extended family and friends.

Verona was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Schug; her loving husband of 60 years, Clifton Steuk; infant son, Curtis Steuk; grandson, Brent Steuk; sisters, Eunice Susie and Norma Susie; brother, Leslie Schug; and sister-in-law, Claudia Schug.
