In Memory of Lynn W. Hamann
Lynn W. Hamann, age 67, of Danbury, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. The Father Dan Greving will officiate. Committal Services will be held at the Liston Township Cemetery of Danbury, Iowa with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:45 p.m., led by the Knights of Columbus, followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. Lynn William Hamann the son of William and Mildred (Hamatt) Hamann was born on October 8, 1948 in Le Mars, Iowa. Growing up in Le Mars, Lynn attended school and graduated from Le Mars High School with the class of 1968.
On February 4, 1969, Lynn was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country overseas in Germany and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1971.
On December 1, 1973, Lynn was united into marriage to Carlene Rose Simmons at St. Johns American Lutheran Church of Le Mars, Iowa. The couple made their first home in James, Iowa, but moving frequently the family finally settled down in Danbury, Iowa in 1978. Lynn and Carlene were blessed with three children: Joshua, Shaun, and Amber.
Lynn managed the concrete ready mix plant in Mapleton, Iowa for 27 years. After that he worked with his son Joshua doing construction and then with his son-in-law Dustin Winkel at Diamond Vogel. Lynn passed away on February 27, 2016 after a courageous battle with ALS.
Lynn enjoyed collecting knives, guns, toy trucks and cars, reading, carving, animals & livestock, and tinkering outside. He liked going to gun shows, flea markets, auctions, horse and tack sales, traveling to visit his daughter Amber, and taking trips to Wyoming, D.C., Memphis, and more. You could always find him with a cold can of Coca Cola in hand or playing euchre with his friends Jay and Deb. But most of all Lynn treasured spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Lynn was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus where he served as a 3rd degree knight.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Carlene Hamann of Danbury, Iowa; children, Joshua Hamann of Ida Grove, Iowa, Shaun (Dustin) Winkel of Holstein, Iowa, Amber (John) Wilbur of Crestview, Florida; grandchildren, Brittany Hamann, Kole Winkel, Dayne Winkel, Emlynn Winkel, Logan Lantz, Aria Winkel, and one on the way; brother, Glenn (Phyllis) Hamann of Le Mars, Iowa; sisters, Gayle Maney of Le Mars, Iowa, Joyce (Cliff) Boehning of Canyon, Texas, Carol (Dennis) Taylor of Le Mars, Iowa and Tamie (Brent) Schmidt of Amarillo, Texas; many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends Ron Hansen, Jay Voigt and Jim Becker.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Hamann; infant sister, Judy Ann Hamann.
