Lois W. Smith, age 81, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Pastor Chad Lierman will officiate. Committal Services will be held in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.christensenvanhouten.com 

Lois Wilma (Short) Smith was born on July 9, 1934 in Anthon, Iowa, to Viola and Walter Short. She grew up and received her education in the Anthon area and graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1952. 

Lois married Raymond Carl Smith on November 6, 1952 in Anthon, Iowa. She worked various jobs in the Correctionville area where the couple had made their home and raised their family until they moved to Ida Grove, Iowa in 1981.  Lois retired in 1987 to become a stay at home caregiver.

Lois enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and taking trips with her sisters. Her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, son Kerry, grandson Shaun Michael Smith, and sisters: Phyllis Prather, Helen Washburn, Francis Short, Joyce Bolles, Doris Rasmussen, and brother, Donald Short.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Steven Smith of Cherokee, IA, Debra (Mickey) Reitz of Ida Grove, IA, and Sandra (Leon) Venteicher of Danbury, IA; daughter-in-law, Freda Smith of Cherokee, IA; nine grandchildren: Lexie (Walter) Raymond of Tucson, AZ, Nikki (Dustin) Gibson of College Station, TX, Megan (special Friend Jody) Smith of Williston, N. D., Trudy (Cory) Schuett of Holstein, IA, Terry Venteicher (special Friend Sunny) of Sioux City, IA, Tami (Juston) Shever of Battle Creek, IA, Trevor Venteicher (special friend Kiali) of Battle Creek, IA, Laci Pierson (special friend Tim) of Ida Grove, IA, Cody Reitz (special friend Maci) of Ida Grove, Iowa; great-grandchildren: David, Faith and Evan Raymond; Christopher and Zachary Gibson; Tyler, Serenity and Chase Pierson; Mikayla Chase, Ethan and Addison Shever; Hope, Jaydli, and Bentley Venteicher; sisters, Virginia (Robert) Seitzinger of Moville, IA, Alice VanLaningham of Sioux City, IA, and Delores Vest of Orange City, IA.
