Charles Hillmann, age 85, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
            Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes.  The Reverends Richard Salcido and Adam Peck will officiate, with burial to follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by McNamara-Moore Post No. 364 of the American Legion.  Visitation with the family present will be held 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove. 
            Born February 8, 1927, in Odebolt, Iowa, Charles Dean Hillmann was the son of Ernest and Ethel (Holloway) Hillmann.  He attended country school and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. 
            On March 21, 1948, Charles was united in marriage to Lois Raymer in Ida County, Iowa.  The couple was blessed with five children, Eugene, Dennis, LaVonne, Cindy, and David.
            Charles was employed with the Department of Transportation for 35 years.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove and McNamara-Moore Post No. 364 of the American Legion.  He was an avid gardener and also enjoyed fishing, camping and Sunday drives.  In later years he and Lois enjoyed wintering in Texas.
            Survivors include four children, Eugene (Lynn) Hillmann of Elko, NV, LaVonne Stover and fiance Jeff Buria of Denison, Cindy Lorenzen of Ida Grove, and David (Becky) Hillmann of Milton, WI; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include his step-mother, Ethel Hillmann of Lake View; two brothers-in-law, Howard Raymer of Downey, CA, and Robert Mohr of Cushing; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
            He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois in 2010; a son, Dennis; a great-grandchild, Jett Lorenzen; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hillmann; two brothers, Victor and Duane Hillmann; and a sister, Bernetta Bailey.
