Marilynn Lee Mefferd, age 78, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Marilynn Lee Mefferd was born on January 12, 1938, in Orson, Iowa. One of four children born to Kenneth and Helen (McGuire) Alvis. Marilynn graduated from Woodbine high school with the class of 1956.
On August 26, 1956 in Woodbine, Iowa, Marilynn was united into marriage to Virgil Mefferd. The couple were blessed with five sons: Kenneth “Dan”, Kevin, Randy, Brian, and Rick.
Marilynn worked outside of the home waitressing for over fifty years in addition to working at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. A few places you might remember Marilynn taking your order are: the Orchid Club, Sirloin Steak House & Herford Lounge, Heiber’s Inn, the Maple Motel and Theo’s Steak House.
Her favorite color was purple, she loved her bell collection, and attending all of her children and grandchildren’s events. But most of all Marilynn treasured her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Virgil Mefferd; sons, Kenneth “Dan” Mefferd of Battle Creek, Iowa, Kevin Mefferd of Battle Creek, Iowa, Randy (Jackie) Mefferd of Sloan, Iowa, Brian (Julie) Mefferd of Ida Grove, Iowa, Rick (Shelia) Mefferd of Bonner Springs, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; sister, Myrna (LaVerne) Hunt of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews; special friend that was like her daughter, Denise (Heiber) Funderman of Battle Creek, Iowa; three near and dear friends that were more like sisters, Wanda Heiber, Karen Krayenhagen, and Ruth Shubin; and extended family and friends.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Merv Alvis and Merlyn “Shorty” Alvis.
