Gunnar Arne Hanson was born on November 23, 1927 in Cherokee, Iowa to Gottfrid and Emelia (Erlandson) Hanson. He was baptized into his faith on September 24, 1930 and confirmed on April 6, 1941 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Cherokee, Iowa. Gunnar attended school and graduated from Quimby High School with the class of 1947.

After graduation Gunnar enlisted into the Army National Guard and worked at the Erlandson Texaco Station in Quimby, Iowa.  Gunnar met the love of his life Betty Jean Krambeck and the couple were united into marriage on June 28, 1952 in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein, Iowa. The couple made their home briefly in Quimby before moving to Hartley, Iowa where Gunnar became partners in a Texaco Station, along with driving a school bus. Betty partnered in a short order café which kept her busy and the couple were blessed with a daughter Doneta.

The family relocated to Cherokee, Iowa where Gunnar hauled fuel for a Texaco gas station.  Gunnar and Betty were blessed with son, Douglas, daughter, Deana, and son, Jeffrey. The family relocated to Ida Grove, Iowa when Gunnar’s boss wanted to expand his NAPA Auto parts store. Gunnar bought out his boss and became soul owner of the NAPA Auto parts store in Ida Grove, Iowa. When Gunnar retired he passed the parts store on to his son Doug.

Retirement did not suite Gunnar and he started working for GOMACO Industries in the transportation department where he worked for 14 years, retiring due to health reasons.

Gunnar was member St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. He enjoyed watching baseball, NASCAR and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Jean Hanson of Ida Grove, Iowa; children: Doneta (Steve) Burns of Parkersburg, Iowa, Douglas (Peggy) Hanson of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Deana Blair of Ames, Iowa; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Chester Hanson of Holstein, Iowa; sister-in-law, Faith Hanson of Marcus, Iowa; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
