Mertie L. Williams, age 87, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt, Iowa. The Pastor Bill Crawford will officiate; with committal services following in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Mertie Logan Bell was born, the daughter of Grover and Ethel Bell on April 16, 1929 in Linn Grove, Iowa where they lived.  They also resided in Sioux Rapids for a short time until 1937 when they moved to Aurelia. Mertie graduated from Aurelia High School in 1946.

 

Mertie did secretarial work for many years, including being the Administrative Assistant to the Crawford County Board of Education in Denison; also serving as State President in 1972-73. During her working years she was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance Co., C & I Farm Service Company, Windsong Travel and the FDIC.

 

She was united in marriage to Jack Williams on October 8, 1950 in Aurelia, Iowa. To this union was born one son Michael, who now resides in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He owns and operates a sport fishing business on Lake Michigan.

 

Mertie really enjoyed her many years as a farm wife. Some of her hobbies were sewing, macramé, crocheting many afghans and especially quilting, winning many ribbons at county fairs.

 

 Preceding her in death by her parents, husband of 62 years Jack, and sister’s Lola and Betty.

 She is survived by son Michael of Kenosha, Wisconsin and brother, Gilbert Bell of Des Moines, Iowa.
