In Memory of Stanley Ruser

Stanley Ruser, age 83, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Sheri O’Bannon will officiate. Committal Services will be held in the Galva Township Cemetery West of Galva, Iowa.  Military Rites will be conducted by the McNamara Post No. 61 of the American Legion of Ida Grove, IA.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Stanley Dean Ruser the son of Edwin and Evelyn (Kordt) Ruser was born on August 22, 1933, in Holstein, Iowa. Stan attended country school and graduated from the Ida Grove High School with the class of 1951.

Stan was drafted into the United States Army on July 15, 1953, and served in France during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged on May 24, 1955. Coming back to Ida Grove, he worked for Curt Jeffries in construction.  He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He served at the Ida Grove Post Office for 35 years before retiring in 1994.

Stan married Lucille Wert on July 3, 1957, in the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek. They were blessed with two daughters Robin and Anita. Stan was a lifelong Yankees Fan and also enjoyed watching old westerns and NASCAR races on T.V.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Lucille and two daughters Robin (Jim) Densmore and Anita (Rand) Whitney of Ida Grove; two granddaughters Skye (Ross Gaulke) Densmore of Mitchell, SD and Paige Whitney of Ida Grove, IA;  brother Dan (Dorothy) Ruser of Schleswig; aunt Harriett Michaelsen of Holstein, IA: sister-in-law Donna Wert of Spencer, IA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Evelyn Ruser; four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
