In Memory of Darlene Lois Segebart
Darlene Lois Segebart, age 93, of Battle Creek, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the Horn Memorial Hospital, of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Randy D. Cormeny will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Darlene Lois Segebart, the daughter of Frank and Amanda (Schumacher) Negless was born on August 15, 1923, on a farm near Correctionville, Iowa. She grew up in the Galva and Correctionville area where she attended country school through the 8th grade.
Darlene married the love of her life, Alvin Segebart, January 19, 1954, in Storm Lake, IA. The couple farmed near the Arthur and Battle Creek area before relocating to Anoka, Minnesota, where they worked for the Federal Cartridge Plant. They returned to Iowa and purchased a farm south of Battle Creek, IA. They lived there for over 35 years before moving to town in 2005. Darlene and Alvin were blessed with five children Richard, David, Roger, Rick, and Cindy.
Darlene made her home at Willow Dale Wellness Village in 2013. Daily visits with her husband and family brightened her day. She loved her caregivers and the new friends that she made while living there.
Darlene’s was a devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She read her bible daily and loved teaching her children and grandchildren to pray and sing God’s word. Darlene was a wonderful cook, gardener and homemaker and enjoyed sharing her talents with her children and grandchildren. She also had a playful spirit that her children and grandchildren adored. Darlene will be remembered fondly for her generosity and love for others. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Nemo and Lavern Negless, sisters Helen Negless, Elsie Sherrill, Frances Clausen, Naomi Nielsen, Jean Steinbach and Lorriane Horstman; and son Roger Segebart.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Alvin Segebart of Battle Creek, IA; children Richard (Rhonda) Segebart of Schaller, IA, David (Rebecca) Segebart of Schaller, IA, Rick (Shari Rohlf) Segebart of Battle Creek, IA and Cindy (Marc) Albers of Battle Creek, IA; eighteen grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother Gaylen (Rita) Negless of Anoka, MN; extended family and friends.
