In Memory of Loretta M. Sick

Loretta M. Sick, age 77, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the Willow Dale Wellness Villiage of Battle Creek, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate; Committal will be held at a later date in the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein, Iowa. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home, of Ida Grove, Iowa. Loretta M. Sick, the daughter of John and Esther (Rohlk) Ehlers, was born on October 25, 1940, in Cushing, IA.  The family custom farmed and Loretta attended three different schools Cushing, Holstein, and Ida Grove.  Loretta graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1958.

After high school, Loretta worked for Bickley Motors in Ida Grove, IA and then at Beckman Motors in Odebolt, IA as a receptionist. On August 23, 1971, Loretta was united into marriage to Charles “Chuck” Sick in the Faith Lutheran Church of Odebolt, IA. Loretta welcomed two stepsons Steve and Doug.

Loretta loved collecting aprons. Once folks found out about her extensive collection, they started to chip in and send Loretta aprons of all sizes, colors, and vintage. Loretta enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially with her nieces.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years Charles “Chuck” Sick of Ida Grove, IA; stepsons Steve Sick of Emmetsburg, IA and Doug Sick of Ireland; grandson Devon Sick and great-grandchildren Peyton and Emery; brother Bob (Elaine) Ehlers of Alta, IA; sisters-in-law Jan Ehlers of Arizona and Sharon Ehlers of Holstein, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents John and Esther Ehlers; and brothers Bill and Howard Ehlers.
