John Scanlan, age 70, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. The Rev. Trish Underberg will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home, of Odebolt, Iowa. John William Scanlan, the son of James and Winne (Paul) Scanlan, was born March 17, 1947, in the Odebolt, IA area. John attended school at and graduated from Odebolt High School.

On March 16, 2009, John married Janice Koenen. The couple made their home in Odebolt, IA, where John was engaged in farming. John and Janice enjoyed hopping in their car and going for joy rides in their free time.

Left to cherish John’s memory include his wife Janice Koenen; daughters Kelly Hosenfelt and Jodi Schroeder; grandchildren; brothers Pat, Jim, and Bob; sisters Patsy and Donna.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom.
