In Memory of Leva Johnson

Leva Johnson, age 96, of Pomeroy, formerly of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at the Pomeroy Care Center, of Pomeroy, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Bruce Kaihoi will officiate; with committal services following in the Hayes Township Cemetery, of Arthur, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Homes, of Ida Grove, Iowa. Leva Lorene (Ridge) Johnson, the daughter of Harlan B and Pearl M (Sexton) Keele, was born on August 5, 1921, near Hendrickson, MO. The family relocated to Iowa and lived in the Rockwell City and Laurens, IA areas where Leva attended and graduated from Ware High School with the class of 1940.

On May 25, 1947, Leva married Ross G. Ridge and the couple settled down on a farm south of Rockwell City, IA. Leva and Ross were blessed with a son Harlan G. Ridge and had the joy of adopting twin girls Cathie Irene and Connie May. 

On August 12, 1981, Leva married Duane E. Johnson and the family made their home in Odebolt, IA. Duane welcomed Cathie and Connie as Leva welcomed Duane’s children Vicki and Art. Leva was an excellent homemaker, she also worked outside of the home during her life as a CNA, and on the Rockwell City Ambulance crew as a driver. Leva enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, camping and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children Cathie McCullough of Lohrville, IA, Connie Ruge of Cherokee, IA, Vicki Stull of Omaha, NE, and Art (Kathy) Johnson of Tacoma, WA; 5 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren,  many great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Leva was preceded in death by her husbands Ross Ridge and Duane Johnson; son Harlan Ridge; sisters Verna Brown, Muriel Hemmerick, Atha Muller, Velma Smith, and Violet Felsing; brother Hollis Keele; and son-in-law Duane Ruge.
