Vicki Ruth Laugavitz, age 67, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Morningside Healthcare Community of Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate; with Committal Services following in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Kiron, Iowa. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, IA. Vicki Ruth Laugavitz, the daughter of Victor and Ruth (Borngeser) Battefeld, was born December 31, 1950, in St. Louis, MO. She was baptized as an infant on May 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO and confirmed in her faith at the Glendale Lutheran Church in St. Louis County, MO. Vicki attended the Kirkwood, MO public schools graduating from Kirkwood High School in with the class of 1969.
While living in St. Louis, Vicki worked a couple of years as a housekeeper at a small hospital and then at a nursing home. On June 28, 1980, Vicki married Rev. Mark F. Laugavitz at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellisville, MO. The couple made their home serving a variety of parishes in Missouri before eventually serving the communities of Kiron and Deloit, IA.
Vicki was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, IA since March of 2003. She had been active in teaching Sunday school, church newsletter assembly, Dorcas & ladies circle, was a lector and usher, and LWML Human Care for Mid Sioux. Vicki helped with the Orphan Grain Train, volunteered at the local nursing homes, was on the Horn Hospital Auxiliary, and was a Horn Hospice volunteer.
Left to cherish her memory are her special friends Judy & Donald Winterrowd and Roger & Retha Harrington.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her husband’s parents; other relatives and friends.
In leu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orphan Grain Train, LCMS World Relief, Lutheran Hour Ministries or for LCMS World Missions.
