Lois Emily Story, age 102, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa. Pastor Ken Miller will officiate with Committal Services following in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Lois Emily Story, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Bettin) Ogren, was born January 31, 1916, in Clinton Township, Sac County, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Reform Church.
Lois received her education at the Clinton #5 country school in Sac County. As a young girl she was a member of the Clinton Chums 4-H club. Lois fondly remembered riding horseback with her friend Elaine Fox to several of their 4-H meetings. She was very proud of the fact that in 1933 she won the “Best Groomed Girl” contest at the county fair and got to spend three days in Ames, IA. When she was older Lois was employed cleaning houses and cooking for several families around town.
On April 30, 1938, Lois was united in marriage to Bill Story in Cherokee, IA. The couple was blessed with a daughter Lois Jean and a son Jon. The family farmed southeast of Odebolt, IA for 34 years. Bill and Lois retired from farming in 1972.
Lois had fun collecting and trying out new recipes. She spent time tending to her garden and canning the fruits of her labor. In her down time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family.
Lois is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years Bill Story; her parents Mary and Daniel Ogren; brothers Clarence, Elmer and Wayne Ogren.
Left to cherish her memory include her daughter Jean (Story) Wruck of Urbandale, IA and son Jon (Margaret) Story of West Lafayette, IN; grandchildren Emilie (Todd) Cushing of Merrimac, MA, Julie (Richard Lindley) Story of Somerville, MA, and William (Ann) Story of Iowa City, IA; great-grandchildren Ruthie, Holly, Owen and Eleanor; extended family and friends.
