Brian Calvin Monroe, age 61, of Las Vegas, Nevada (formerly of Ida Grove, IA) passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the Desert Springs Hospital of Las Vegas, NV.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate with Committal Services following in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Brian Calvin Monroe was born August 29, 1957, in Valparaiso, IN. He was the son of Forrest and Margery (Kleist) Monroe. He grew up in Indiana and in 1971 the family relocated to Ida Grove, IA. Brian attended Ida Grove High School and graduated with the class of 1975.
After high school Brian enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Ida Grove. Throughout his life, Brian worked various jobs and had been employed in the past at Bil-Mar Foods in Storm Lake, IA, Byron Originals in Ida Grove, IA and John Morrell in Sioux City, IA. In 2006, Brian moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he was currently employed at Timet.
On December 4, 1982, Brian was united in marriage to Karen Tuel in Schaller, IA. The couple made their home in Schaller and were blessed with two children: Jackie and Brandon. The couple would later part ways.
Throughout his life, Brian’s hobbies have included watching NASCAR races, bowling, shooting pool, and playing slow pitch softball. He also enjoyed playing cards with his children and family.
Left to cherish his memory include his children Jackie (Justin) Wandrey of Schaller, IA and Brandon Monroe of Fort Carson, CO; four grandsons: Ethan, Lane and Jace Wandrey and Brevin Monroe; two brothers: Jerry Monroe of Las Vegas, NV and Marvin Monroe of Sloan, IA; four sisters: Mavis (Phillip) Hast of Ida Grove, IA, Shirley (Pete) Pedersen of Deming, NM, Sandy (Dale) Ullrich of Arthur, IA and Patty (Terry) Kvasager of Plummer, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Margery Monroe; brothers Jim (Zelda), Tom (Kay) and Donnie Monroe; nephew Jimmy Ullrich.
