In Memory of Donald H. Sievers
Donald H. Sievers, age 93, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday January 20, 2019, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Pastor Ken Miller will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion, of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from Noon to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Donald Henry Sievers, the son of Henry and Bertha (Glade) Sievers, was born on June 13, 1925, in Arthur, IA. Don grew up in Arthur and received his education from Arthur High School. He enlisted in to the U.S. Navy his senior year and served a four-year term during which he was assigned to the USS Battleship West Virginia. He was awarded a Bronze Star medal.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don returned home to Arthur, IA and was a co-owner of Sievers Garage for a number of years with his father. On October 1, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Jeweleen “Peggy” Cox in the Ames Methodist Church of Ames, IA. The couple were blessed with a daughter, Kim. The family made their home in Arthur but would also live in Ida Grove and eventually Odebolt. Don was a bus driver for over 30 years for the Odebolt-Arthur School District. He was also employed at Gomaco for 10 years as a traveling serviceman until retiring in 1996.
Don had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, and reloading shells. He treasured time with his faithful Golden Retriever companion, Dandy. He also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ football games. Don and Peggy loved wintering in Texas for 16 years during their retirement. For the past 3.5 years Don called Odebolt Specialty Care his home. His family is thankful for the wonderful care he received during his stay.
Left to cherish his memory are daughter Kim (Kent) Schroeder of Odebolt, IA; grandsons Kyle Schroeder of Odebolt, IA, Keith (Alli) Schroeder of Sac City, IA and Korey Schroeder of St. Louis Park, MN; great-grandchildren Derek and Mckenna of Sac City, IA and one on the way.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Bertha Sievers; wife Jeweleen “Peggy” Sievers.
