In Memory of Roger Dean Furne

Roger Dean Furne, age 76, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Private Family Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. A Private Family Committal Service will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. Family will gather an hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. from 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove Iowa. Roger Dean Furne, the son of Edward and Ida (Hansen) Furne, was born on April 6, 1942, in Battle Creek, IA. Roger grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Public School.

On June 3, 1966, in Elk Point, South Dakota, Roger was united in marriage to the love of his life Judy Rae Barnes. On August 3, 1966, Roger was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and was discharged on August 2, 1968.

The couple made their forever home in Battle Creek and were blessed with three children Todd, Gina, and Shane. Roger was employed at Midwest Industries for 37 years before going part time at GNC Ready Mix and then retired in 2012.

Roger enjoyed camping, boating, playing cards, cruising his golf cart around town, and spending time with his family. He adored his wife and treasured his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren always brought a smile to his face and a sparkle to his eye.

In the fall of 2017, Roger was diagnosed with lung cancer. It may have taken his life but he refused to let it take his soul. Being humble, Roger never complained. He pushed through with courage and dignity until it was his time to journey home.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy Furne of Battle Creek, IA; children Todd (Shirley) Furne of Schaller, IA, Gina (Curtis) Muckey of Galva, IA, and Shane (Brenda) Furne of Chetek, WI; grandchildren Shawna (Daniel) Bloyer of Galva, IA, Taylor Muckey of Galva, IA, Jake (Mariah) Munger of Ft. Benning, GA, and Josh Munger of Barron, WI; great-grandchildren Lawson, Nathaniel, and Triston; brothers Dennis (Elaine) Furne of Atlantic, IA, Kendall Furne of Denison, IA, Wesley (Dianne) Furne of Denison, and Craig Furne of Denison, IA; sisters Leanna Jensen of Madison, WI and Carla Winans of Denison, IA; two brothers-in-law and three sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ida Furne; five brothers Ed Jr., Andrew, Richard, Frederick and Willis Furne; two sisters Frances Gute and Marla Juhl; sisters-in-law Robin and Marge Furne.
