Alvin John Segebart was born on November 8, 1923, in Crawford County, IA. He was the oldest of five children born to John and Margaret (Krayenhagen) Segebart. He grew up in the Crawford and Ida County areas where he attended country school through the 8th grade.
Alvin married the love of his life Darlene Lois Negless on January 19, 1954, in Storm Lake, IA. The couple raised five children together Richard, David, Roger, Rick and Cindy. They farmed near the Arthur and Battle Creek, IA area before relocating to Anoka, MN. While in Anoka, they worked for the Federal Cartridge Ammunition factory. Homesick for Iowa, the family returned to the area and purchased a farm south of Battle Creek. There, Alvin and Darlene dedicated their time to raising their family and farming before retiring to town in 2005.
Alvin was a devoted and loving husband to Darlene for 63 years, spending endless hours by her side. He was a caring father and grandfather, teaching them all he had learned.
He enjoyed working with his hands, farming, tinkering and in his younger years listening to polka and dancing. Alvin relished the time spent with his grandchildren sharing stories about the good ol’ days. He was truly a “salt of the earth” man.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Darlene Segebart; parents John and Margaret Segebart; son Roger Segebart; granddaughter Sharlene Richey; brother Robert Segebart; and sisters Ruth Johnson and Helen Ericksen.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Richard (Rhonda) Segebart of Schaller, IA, David (Rebecca) Segebart of Schaller, IA, Rick (Shari) Segebart of Battle Creek, IA and Cindy (Marc) Albers of Battle Creek, IA; sister Lucille Deirenfield; seventeen grandchildren: Sheldon (Jennean) Segebart, Rochelle (Rob) Hoskins, Anita (Bobby) Schlender, Nicki (George) Ehrig, Brad (Jennifer) Segebart, Bryon (Cindy) Segebart, Chad (Brenda) Segebart, Russ (Stacy) Segebart, Troy Segebart, Sandy Segebart, Sherrie (Jim) Broderson, Robert Segebart, Ryan (Jen) Albers, Josh (Dana) Albers, Raelynn (Chris) Demara, Tracy (Tim) Miller, and Steph (Brad) Roth; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
