Freda Noll, age 89, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Chad Lierman will officiate with Committal Services following in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Freda Noll, the daughter of Alfred and Hilda (Mikkelsen) Blidegn, was born May 23, 1930, on the family farm in rural Ida Grove, IA. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. Freda attended country school in Ida County and attend Galva High School graduating with the class of 1949.
On February 19, 1950, Freda was united into marriage with Wilmer “Bill” Noll at the St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. They were blessed with six children: Richard, Betty, Robert, Lyle, Beverly, and Dale. Freda was a devoted mother and homemaker while the couple raised their children on the family farm north of Ida Grove. In 1972, Freda and Bill moved into Ida Grove. Many may remember Freda as one of the friendly lunch ladies in the Ida Grove High School kitchen where she was employed for 17 years until she retired.
Freda and Bill loved to travel and she would collect spoons from their various trips to locations such as Alaska, England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Germany. Freda enjoyed cooking, baking, and collecting recipes. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning her produce. Freda and Bill could often be found attending a square dance on a weekend night. Freda became a member of First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove and loved to volunteer her time there. She also was a member of the Morningside Care Center Auxiliary, the Ida County Historical Society, and volunteered at the guest book at Horn Memorial Hospital. More recently Freda could be found enjoying water walking at the Ida Grove Rec Center with her friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her six children Richard (Liz) Noll of Sioux Rapids, IA, Betty Hedberg of Lake View, IA, Robert (Darlene) Noll of Early, IA, Lyle (Roxanne) Noll of Cherokee, IA, Beverly (Bob) Flewelling of Sioux City, IA and Dale Noll (special friend Katherine Eenhus) of Harlan, IA; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and special friends Gerald and Shari Tarr of Ida Grove, IA.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years Wilmer “Bill” Noll; her parents Alfred and Hilda Blidegn; her in-laws James and Lora Noll; great-grandson Zackary Jones; her sister in infancy Lilyan Blidegn; sister Betsy Heydt of Holstein, IA; brothers-in-law Donald, Roy, and Melvin Noll; sisters-in-law Barbara Bennett and Marjorie (Charles) Wadsley of Sac City, IA.
