In Memory of Viola Mae Hill
Viola Mae Hill, age 89, of Ida Grove, Iowa (formerly of Schleswig, Iowa) passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Schleswig, Iowa. Pastor Merle Mahnken will officiate with Committal Services following in the Morgan Township Cemetery of Schleswig, Iowa. A Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Schleswig, Iowa. Viola Mae (Nobiling) Hill was born July 28, 1929, on the family farm in Wheatland Township, Carroll County, Iowa, the youngest child of William Sr. and Anna (Henrichsen) Nobiling. Viola was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. She attended rural school for two years, then grade school and high school in Arcadia, graduating with the class of 1946. She was employed at Lehman Rexall in Carroll before marriage.
On September 14, 1949, Viola was united in marriage to Harold Hill. They made their home on the Hill family farm near Manning, Iowa, then moved to a farm near Westside in 1954 and purchased a farm near Schleswig in 1959, where they worked side-by-side, grateful for the opportunity. Life was complete when they were blessed to become the parents of two children, James and Doris.
Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She loved her family and life on the farm. She enjoyed traveling; was always eager to visit new places. After Harold’s death on November 29, 1991, she continued to live on the farm until moving to Schleswig on April 19, 2005. Viola moved to Ida Grove in November of 2018.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold Hill, daughter-in-law Karen, brothers Elmer (Eva), Orville (Luella), William (Vera) and Edward Nobiling; sisters Charlotte (Alvin) Grundmeier and Ella (Leslie) Stammer.
She is survived by her son, James and wife Tammy Hill of Schleswig, IA; her daughter Doris Hill of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren Matthew and wife Jill Hill of Norwalk, IA, Janet and husband Andy Clark of Des Moines, IA, Jessica and husband Dustin Ogren of Schleswig, IA and Ryan Hill of Schleswig, IA; great-grandchildren Sheldon, Evan and Kolten Hill, Peyton, Aidan and Katelyn Clark, Charlotte and Hannah Ogren; sister-in-law Lucille (Ed) Nobiling of Carroll, IA; plus nieces and nephews.
