In Memory of Jackie Lynn Mefferd
Jackie Lynn Mefferd, age 59, of Sloan, Iowa (formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at her residence of Sloan, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek and Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Jackie Lynn entered the world on May 8, 1960, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald and Sharon (Lynch) Bockelmann. She grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from the Battle Creek High School with the class of 1978.
On August 8, 1981, Jackie married her high school sweetheart Randall “Randy” Lee Mefferd in the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek. The couple delighted in welcoming two children, a daughter Tarin and a son Torey. The family made their home in Battle Creek, where over the years Jackie worked for various employers as a cook and later as an assistant manager. Later the family relocated to Sloan, Iowa. Throughout her life, Jackie gained many friends and with her contagious laugh and soft heart she has left her print on many hearts.
Jackie was an avid NASCAR fan and had a deep love for music. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and attending their school activities. Christmas was Jackie’s favorite holiday and she delighted in decorating her home. She was an accomplished cook and is fondly remembered for her famous cherry bing bars and macaroni salad.
Jackie fought a courageous and noble battle throughout her illness. She went home to her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2019. She was greeted with open arms and by her beloved dog Bubba.
Survivors include her husband Randall “Randy” Mefferd of Sloan, IA; children Tarin Swanger of Battle Creek, IA and Torey (fiancée Jerusha Rice) Mefferd of Sloan, IA; grandchildren Faith, Jocelynn, Hunter and Cambria; brothers Jason (Lisa) Bockelmann of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Brett (Lynne) Susie of Neola, IA stepfather Eugene Gross of Battle Creek, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Ronald Bockelmann and Sharon Gross; brother Joel Bockelmann; sister Jody Nash; and mother-in-law Marilyn Mefferd.
