Marvelyn Bjorholm, age 100, of Bonita Springs, Florida (formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the American House Memory Care Unit of Bonita Springs, Florida.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate with Committal Services following in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, Friday, October 18, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Marvelyn Hazel Bjorholm was born on October 27, 1918, in Wilmot, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Smith) Langworthy. She graduated from Wilmot High School and continued her education in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where she received her teacher’s certificate and taught country school for 10 years.
On August 19, 1947, Marvelyn was united in marriage to Arthur Bjorholm in the Presbyterian Church in Wilmot, South Dakota. The couple were blessed with four children: Marlene, Lois, Robert and Ronald.
Marvelyn worked in Battle Creek, Iowa, at the First Presbyterian Church as the secretary for 30 years. She also cleaned the Battle Creek Hartley Hospital for 15 years. Marvelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and Naomi Circle. She participated in the Pleasant Valley Women’s Club, Garfield Women’s Club, Mariners, the local historical society and as a 4-H leader. Marvelyn loved gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. She also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Marlene (Larry) Crawford of Indianola, Iowa, Lois Bachman of Bonita Springs, Florida, Robert (Denise) Bjorholm of Battle Creek, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great- great grandson; extended family and friends.
Marvelyn was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mary Langworthy; husband Arthur Bjorholm; son Ronald Bjorholm and extended family.
