In Memory of Lela Miesner

Lela Miesner, age 94, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa.  The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Lela Florine Miesner was born September 27, 1925, in Lincoln, Missouri, to Edward and Emma (Kreissler) Wischmeier. She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln and educated at Zion Lutheran School. She met her future husband, Leonard Miesner, as they attended Walther League (Lutheran Youth Group) together and lived on adjoining farms.

Lela and Leonard were married October 19, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They relocated to Iowa, where Leonard worked as a farm hand before they started farming on their own farm located north of Ida Grove, Iowa. They had three children, Donald Lee (1948-1961), Allen Wayne (1952-1982), and Karen Lynn.

After they retired from farming in 1988, Lela and Leonard moved to town. They were active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove for many years. Lela volunteered her time at church and the local nursing home.

Lela relished in being a grandmother and her love for her family ran deep. She will be remembered for her clever wittiness, quiet strength and unwavering faith. Lela was an accomplished cook. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and playing 500.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Michael) McTaggart of Emporia, KS; daughter-in-law, Joy (Sidney) Bostian of Glen Allen, VA; five grandchildren: AJ (Moriah) Bostian of Portland, OR, Judd (Tiffany) Bostian of Leesburg, VA, Alyssa (Barry) Davis of Castle Rock, CO, Jade (Bryan) Sewell of Lochbuie, CO, and Joseph McTaggart of Springfield, MO; four great-grandchildren, Seth Davis, Ryenn Bostian, Dylan Bostian, and Kyle Bostian; brother, Robert Wischmeier of Lincoln, MO; eight nephews and one niece; extended family and friends.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Emma Miesner; husband Leonard E. Miesner; sons Donald L. and Allen W. Miesner; sister Olga (Oliver) Wienberg; and close cousin Lorine Backs.
