In Memory of Roger D. Pierce
Roger D. Pierce, age 76, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at his residence of Odebolt, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa. Pastor Ken Miller will officiate. Committal will follow in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa, with Military Rites conducted by Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Roger Dale Pierce, the son of Dale and Marie (Hall) Pierce, was born in the home of Bill and Ella Jeske, on July 10, 1943, near Denison, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in Westside RFD until the family bought a 120-acre farm outside of Charter Oak, Iowa. Roger attended country school and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1961.
After graduation, Roger had various mechanic jobs, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1964. He was shipped to basic training in San Antonio, Texas and then stationed on Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri for four years driving a wrecker in the maintenance shop.
In 1966, Roger was united in marriage to Camilla Wagner in Storm Lake, Iowa and they welcomed their first son, David Wayne. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1968, the family relocated to Alta, Iowa. Roger was employed at the time with a Ford garage located in Storm Lake working as a mechanic. The couple were blessed with two more sons, James Andrew and Brian Lee.
The family would relocate to Odebolt, Iowa, in 1978, after International Harvester in Storm Lake closed and Roger transferred to their other location in Odebolt. Camilla and Roger welcomed their fourth son Nick Lee. After International Harvester closed its doors in 1984, Roger went to work for Mau Trucking in Ida Grove, Iowa. He turned wrenches as a mechanic for Mau Trucking for 18 years until it closed in 2002.
Liking to keep busy, Roger went into semi-retirement working for Schenkelberg’s (John Deere) in Denison, Iowa, doing what he loved tinkering and repairing tractors. Roger enjoyed going on vacations and preferred to drive to his destination to appreciate the passing scenery. He also loved to camp, spend time with his family and keep busy tinkering in his garage.
Left to cherish his memory are is loving wife, Camilla M. Pierce of Odebolt, Iowa; four sons, David Wayne (Tanya) Pierce, James Andrew (fiancée Beth Blum) Pierce, Brain Lee Pierce and Nick Lee Pierce all of Odebolt, Iowa; six grandchildren: Jordan (Morgan) Pierce, Devon “Whitey” (Justine) Pierce, Wyatt (Brianna) Pierce, Savahanna Pierce, Jaren Pierce and Briar Pierce; one great-grandchild Remy Lyn Pierce; brother, Charles (Dee) Pierce of Battle Creek, Iowa; sister, Lois Pierce of Ponca, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Marie Pierce; sister in infancy, Marjorie Ella Pierce.
