Susan G. (Salie) McKnight, 85, passed away in Littleton, Colorado on April 4, 2020. She was born at home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Her parents, Duane and Madge, were partners for many years in the Buntrock-Salie photography studio in Storm Lake.
Sue played the bassoon in the marching band at Storm Lake High School. While attending the University of Iowa, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority and joined the 100 strong Scottish Highlander all-girl bagpipe marching band, she met her husband, James D. McKnight of Ida Grove, Iowa. They married in Pensacola, Florida in 1956, the day he graduated from U.S. Navy Aviation Officer Training School.
Over the next 26 years of naval life, they lived all over the continental United States as well as Hawaii and Iceland. She retired with her husband to the family's (Irwin centennial) farm on M-50. There, she worked at the Early News newspaper and was active in PEO and was an officer in United Methodist Women.
In 2003, Sue and Jim moved to Colorado to be close to family and the mountains they loved. She always made it back to her Iowa reunions whenever she could and loved to keep up with her many friends and family in Iowa and throughout the world. Sue loved to travel and over her lifetime saw much of the world.
She is survived by her 3 sons (and their wives), Jim (Karen) of Lakewood, CO, John (Lori) of Littleton, CO and Will (Karen) of St. Louis, MO; her brother, Jim Salie of Reno, NV; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who will all miss her greatly.
