In Memory of Cynthia L. Nielsen

Cynthia L. Nielsen, age 65, of Battle Creek, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Cynthia “Cindy” Louise Nielsen, the daughter of Warren “Bart” and Mary A. (Boger) Bartels, was born on July 28, 1954, in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The family made their home in Danbury, Iowa. When Cindy was in the 3^rd grade the family relocated to Battle Creek, Iowa. She participated in softball and cheerleading graduating from Battle Creek High School with the class of 1972.

On December 2, 1972, Cindy was united in marriage to Randall “Randy” Nielsen in the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The couple made their home on the Nielsen family farm south of Battle Creek and were blessed with two sons, Jason and Jon. 

Cindy owned and operated Nielsen’s Kennel where she enjoyed raising and breeding a variety of dogs. She also loved being outside on the farm watching wildlife and farm animals. Family was very important to Cindy, especially her grandchildren. 

Survivors include her husband Randy Nielsen of Battle Creek, Iowa; sons Jason (Andrea) Nielsen of Battle Creek, Iowa and Jon Nielsen (fiancée Lana Means) of Ida Grove, Iowa; grandchildren: Summit, Denali and Kenai Nielsen, Jasmine, Isaiah and Savanna Means; great-grandchild Zoey Means; brother Mike Bartels of Onawa, Iowa; sister Mary (Craig) Farrell of Fonda, Iowa; brother-in-law Roger (Joan) Nielsen of Battle Creek, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents Warren “Bart” and Mary A. Bartels; and brother David Bartels.
