Eldon Ernest Belstene, age 85, of Arthur, Iowa passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Private Family Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 6, 2020, at the Christensen -Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Pastor Bill Crawford officiated. Committal followed in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Eldon Ernest Belstene, the son of Earl and Hazel (Eng) Belstene, was born on January 20, 1935, in Ida County. He was baptized and became a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Schaller, Iowa. Eldon grew up on the family farm near Arthur, Iowa and received his education in the Arthur Community School District.
On August 27, 1961, Eldon was united in marriage to Shirley Graham in the United Presbyterian Church in Schaller, by Reverend Guy Nusbaum. The couple later joined the First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt, Iowa, where Eldon was a past Elder serving on the Session. Eldon farmed most of his life until 1986 and after that he did various jobs. The couple resided on the family farm near Arthur and Eldon lived there until his health deteriorated.
In 2018, Eldon relocated to Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa where he resided up until present.
Survivors include his wife of almost 59 years, Shirley of Arthur, IA; daughters Barb of Atlantic, IA, Julie of Carroll, IA and Karen of Odebolt, IA; son Keith (Kim) of Thornton, IA; grandchildren: Justin of Carroll, IA, Dylan of Thornton, IA, Hailey of Odebolt, IA, Lucas of Odebolt, IA and Jackson of Thornton, IA; brother-in-law Norman Van Houten of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl in 1978 and Hazel in 2013; sisters Audrey (Ron) Steuk and LaVon Van Houten; brothers Larry Belstene and an infant brother; nephews Ron Steuk, Jr. and Bradley Van Houten; father-in-law and mother-in-law Lloyd and Marie Kolbe.
