Barbara Mae Finch was born on a farm in Logan Township to George and Fannie (Sheldon) Hoffman on October 20, 1916. She attended rural school through the Eighth Grade and graduated from Ida Grove Highschool in 1934.
She belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove all her life. When she was young, she taught Sunday school and bible school for many years. Barb taught rural school for five years then married Ralph Finch Jr. May 21, 1939, in the Little Brown Church. To this union one daughter was born, Patty.
Barb farmed side by side with her husband for 41 years and during that time she was a 4-H leader for many years. After retiring from farming, Barb worked at the Ida County Bank for 16 years. She also did other volunteer work and her family always came first. Barb enjoyed family get togethers of which there were many. She followed all of her daughter’s, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces’, and nephews’ activities. One nephew said she belonged to the “aunt colony” because her and her sisters followed their activities at home and away. Even after her family was out of school, she attended the school activities and missed very few.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Jill and husband Jay Wingert of Battle Creek and Ben and wife Jenn Iversen of Missouri Valley; great-grandchildren: Shelby and husband Jacob Davis, Gavan, Virginia, and Little Ben. She also is survived by her former son-in-law John Iversen; a host of nieces and nephews as well as many, many friends.
Barb was proceeded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Patty; her four sisters Ruth and husband Don, Marge and husband Oscar Jr., Margaret and husband Dale, Sarah and husband John; brother George and wife Ruth; nieces: Anita, Rhonda, and Beverly; nephew Marvin; and one great-nephew Mike. Goodbye until we meet again.
Condolences
Barb was such a special person in my life. I have so many cherished memories of her as I was growing up on the farm next door. Especially after my mother passes away when I was a teen. She and Finch were always there for me.
Love and prayers ”
