In Memory of John "Jack" Williams
John R. “Jack” Williams, age 87, of Odebolt, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Mark Volkers will officiate, with burial to follow at the Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt, Iowa. Military honors will be conducted by Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Born February 28, 1926, in Ida Grove, Iowa, John R. Williams was the son of John H. and Gladys P. (Nelson) Williams. He graduated from Odebolt High School in 1943, and, on October 8, 1950, was united in marriage to Mertie Logan Bell in Aurelia, Iowa. One son, Michael H. Williams, was born to this union.
Jack served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 through 1955.
He was a farmer, raising pure breed Angus cattle for many years. One of Jack’s fondest memories was of a steer from his herd that was grand champion at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago in 1961. He was active in 4-H in his younger years, and showed many award winning club calves.
Survivors include his wife, Mertie; a son, Michael H. Williams, of Kenosha, WI; a brother, Charles (Barb) Williams, of St. Paul, MN; a sister, Beverly (Bob) Leahy, of Cedar Falls; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
