Janis Carol Kreisler, the daughter of Paul and Selma (Block) Cameron, was born on October 16, 1934, in Niobrara, Nebraska. Janis, her twin sister, Jeana, and younger brother, Tom, moved to Alta, Iowa, where the siblings grew up. She graduated from Fairview School in Alta with the class of 1953.
On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1953, Janis married Harry Paul Kreisler in Omaha, Nebraska, and the couple were happily married for 50 years. Janis and Harry were blessed with three children--Joy, Jerry, and Gail. Janis worked on the farm with her family and for 35 years in the dietary department at Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa, before retiring in 2010.
She loved watching, feeding, and reading about birds, as well as cooking for family get togethers. Janis always wanted to be a teacher and for a short time taught an adult reading course. Many fond memories were made spending time with family, especially fishing with cane poles at farm ponds on warm summer nights, where she was always on the lookout for snakes.
Janis was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa, where she taught Sunday school and was active in ladies circle when she was able. In 2015, Janis moved to Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Ida Grove. While there, Janis developed a love for painting landscapes, crocheting baby hats, and playing Bingo, which she especially enjoyed when she won. Janis enjoyed a good laugh and treasured every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memories are her daughters Joy (Kelby) Wulf of Holstein, Iowa, and Gail (Roger) Kenkel of Manilla, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Irene Kreisler of Sioux City; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Selma Cameron; husband Harry Paul Kreisler; son Jerry Kreisler; brother Tom (Judy) Cameron; sister Jeana (Verne) Hansen; and son-in-law Dennis Sharkey.
