Doyle H. Brown was born at home in Galva, Iowa, on July 19, 1936. He was one of 4 children born to Cecil and Leta (Specketer) Brown. Doyle grew up in Galva where he received his education and graduated from Galva High School with the class of 1953.
During high school and shortly after graduation, Doyle worked helping local farmers before relocating to Omaha, Nebraska, to pursue other career opportunities. This led to a career path with Sidles Company where Doyle worked as an automotive parts specialist as a purchasing agent. During this time Doyle met the love of his life Karen Going.
On June 4, 1961, Doyle and Karen became one at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Lyons, Nebraska. The Lord blessed this union with two children, a daughter, Kim and a son, Kevin. In 1975, the family relocated to Ida Grove, Iowa and purchased a building in Sac City, Iowa, where they established D & K Auto Supply. In 1983, the couple sold the business and shortly after Doyle took a position with GOMACO in Ida Grove, where he worked as a purchasing agent until his retirement in 2002.
Doyle was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, holding numerous offices within the church as a board of elders, served communion, was a joyful usher, loyal servant and mentored many. He had a loving passion for people and enjoyed volunteering for meals on wheels. He loved everything related to water: fishing, boating, and water skiing. Doyle also enjoyed traveling and was considered a “Road Warrior” that loved to drive. In 1957, Doyle and Karen started bowling which is a sport that he continued to enjoy up until present.
Being called GRANDPA was one of Doyle’s greatest treasures. An avid sports fan, he relished in watching and attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. If he wasn’t on a Piper sideline cheering for the Pirates, you could find him rooting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. Doyle was an avid reader, previous member of the library board and enjoyed dancing with his wife Karen.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Karen Brown of Ida Grove, IA; children, Kim (Steve Powell) Brown of Gardner, KS and Kevin and Kim (Stigge) Brown of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren: Parker Hasenkamp, Kaleb Brown, Emma Johnson, Kinley Brown, and Ace Johnson; brother, Rodnee C. Brown of Green Valley, AZ; brother-in-law, Arnold Levin of Holstein, IA; sisters-in-law, Jan Brown of Baxter, MN and Bonita Going of Lyons, NE; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Leta Brown; sister Janice Levin; brother Gary Brown; sister-in-law Dena Brown; and brother-in-law Leland Going.

I am one of June Davidson’s grand daughters, the youngest of Marcia and Dale Bails. I remember visiting with you all when I was a young girl and remember those visits fondly. I believe y’all were the fun couple with the camper that my sister Juloy and I thought was so fun to play in. I also remember picking beans and cooking with you. Julie Grell let me know of Doyle’s passing and I wanted to say I’m so sorry. I would love to hear from you sometime.
I’ve been married for almost 25 years and we have 5 kids. A few years ago, we moved to Austin, Texas to help care for my inlaws. ”
