In Memory of La Wayne R. Wessel

   La Wayne R. Wessel, age 70, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Morningside Care Center of Ida Grove, Iowa.

   A Public Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa, with Rev. Neil Wehmas officiating.

   La Wayne Roger Wessel, the son of Lloyd and Lorraine (Schultz) Wessel, was born on September 8, 1951. He grew up in the Denison and Ida Grove, Iowa areas where he graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1970.

   After graduation, La Wayne began farming and on July 23, 1971, he married the love of his life, Barbara Schriber, in the Little Brown Church of Nashua, Iowa.  La Wayne enjoyed farming for 35 years until he retired due to illness. After a courageous fight with cancer, La Wayne was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on October 12, 2021.

   La Wayne enjoyed fishing and watching the Yankees. He was a devoted Christian and member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove. La Wayne treasured his time spent with family and was a proud father and grandfather.

   Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Barbara Wessel of Ida Grove, IA; sons Todd Wessel of Ida Grove, IA and Tyson (Nicky) Wessel of Woodstock, IL; grandchildren: Derrick, Dana, Kolton, and Parker; brother Gailen (Pam) Wessel of Ida Grove, IA; brother-in-law Marrelle Knudsen of Ida Grove, IA; sister-in-law Myra Wessel of Ida Grove, IA; extended family and friends.

   La Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Lorraine Wessel; sister Cheryl Knudsen; and brother Gene Wessel.
