Gene E. Schneider, age 90, of Denison, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the Eventide Lutheran Home of Denison, Iowa.

A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion of Ida Grove, Iowa. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Public Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Gene Edward Schneider was born on August 1, 1931, near Ida Grove, Iowa, to Hans and Helen (Schiernbeck) Schneider. Gene was baptized in his faith on August 30, 1931 and confirmed on April 14, 1946. He attended country school in Soldier Township, one year at Soldier Township Lutheran School, and graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1951. Gene then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January of 1952 and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was honorably discharged in January of 1956.

In August of 1958 Gene married Charlotte Rehse. They were blessed with three children: Rodney, Roy, and Helen. The couple later parted ways. On August 10, 2003, Gene married Marlene Groth and they made their home on a farm near Denison, Iowa. Gene was employed as an over-the-road trucker who worked for Mau Trucking, Jorgensen Trucking, and Krager Trucking. He was also engaged in farming. 

Gene enjoyed polka dances, traveling, and watching television (especially old Westerns, music shows, and RFD-TV). He was active in the Ida County Fair Board, Ida County Pork Producers, and the Ida County Beef Producers. Gene was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Marlene Schneider of Denison, IA; children Rodney (Karla) Schneider of Ida Grove, IA, Roy (Patsy) Schneider of Salix, IA; and Helen Hamij of Odebolt, IA; granddaughter Rachel Schneider (special friend Cody Schnor) of Ottumwa, IA; great-granddaughters Rileigh and Maizley; sister Janice Bridges of Clarksville, GA; brother-in-law Earl (Joleen) Schultz of Charter Oak, IA; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Schneider; father and stepmother Hans and Jenny Schneider; and brother-in-law Duane Bridges.

“So saddened to hear of Gene’s passing. I know my Dad was waiting for him at the gates. I remember years ago before my Dad passed, he was sitting watching RFD and a Polka show, and he about came out of his chair when he saw Gene out there dancing. He always had great memories of those two and other area farmer’s working together chopping silage or other activities. What a great crew…Gene’s family are in my thoughts and prayers. May he Rest In Peace. ”
