In Memory of Wally Burk

Wallace “Wally” Burk, age 68, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, near his home of Ida Grove, Iowa.  

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Private Family Committal will take place in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Wally Burk, age 68, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away early Saturday morning on November 25, 2023, near his home. He was traveling to check on his pigs when he was involved in a car accident. 

Born on February 2, 1955, Wallace Frederick “Wally” Burk was welcomed into the world by his parents LeRoy and Lila (Still) Burk in Ida Grove, Iowa. He walked by faith and was baptized at an early age in Ida Grove. Wally received his education in Ida Grove where he enjoyed competing in wrestling. He worked hard every day on his dad’s farm alongside his brothers and sister milking dairy cows and helping with the rest of the various animals. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1973. 

After graduation, Wally went to Sheldon Community College where he majored in auto mechanics. After graduation he returned home to work for Rupp Tire and farm. In 1981, he bought the farm near his dad, Leroy and his brothers. Every spring and fall, Leroy, John, Bruce, and Chad worked together to plant and harvest beans and corn. Wally also raised livestock year-round.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Sarah (Mike) Kinney and their 3 children Emma, Wyatt, and Molli and Brandon (Brittany) Burk and their 2 children Jack and Brooke; brother John (Linda) Burk and their 5 children; sister Janene (Grant) Goodenow and their 4 children; brother Chad (Jess) Burk and their 4 children; as well as extended family all over Iowa and beyond.

He was proceeded in death by his son Isaiah Burk; parents LeRoy and Lila Burk; grandparents Roy and Malinda Burk; and his brother Bruce Burk. May he rest in peace.
