In Memory of Louis "Bud" Lichter
Louis “Bud” Lichter, age 89, of Arthur, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at his residence of Arthur, Iowa.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the St. Martin Catholic Church of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Father Joseph Dillinger will officiate.
Military Rites will be conducted by the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion of Odebolt, Iowa. Committal services will follow in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery of Fonda, Iowa. Per Bud’s request, casual attire is encouraged.

Louis “Bud” Lichter passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 29, 2024. He was born May 28, 1934, in Pocahontas County, Iowa, to Art and Martha (Fex) Lichter. He graduated in 1952 from Pocahontas Catholic School. Bud joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation, where he served during the Korean War. During his service, he was a tail gunner on a B-29 Superfortress and a refueling boom operator on a KC-97 Stratotanker. He was honorably discharged in 1956. After being discharged, he returned to Pocahontas County, Iowa, where he was married, had 8 children, and was later divorced.
In 1978 Bud met and married Sandra (Kilbride) Prieskorn. Shortly after, they moved to Wall Lake, Iowa, where they farmed for several years. After farming, he started working for the State of Iowa as a Meat Inspector, where he and Sandy moved to Mason City, Iowa. He retired from the State of Iowa in 2001. Bud and Sandy moved to Arthur, Iowa, in 2002 to enjoy retirement. He worked part-time for Lewis Drug making home deliveries of pharmacy items to local residents.
Bud enjoyed going to casinos, sitting outside watching airplanes flying overhead, working on puzzle books, family gatherings, and visiting people he met on his walks around the neighborhood. Church was very important to Bud. He attended St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa, until it closed, then started attending St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake.
He is survived by his wife Sandy of 46 years; children Paula (Tom) Batzer of Maryland, Patty Campbell of Iowa, Pippa (Randy) Fineran of Iowa, Jon (Lindsay) Prieskorn of Texas, John (Cindy) Lichter of Iowa, Carol (Leonard) Hill of Missouri, Mary Lichter of California, Jim Lichter of Virginia, Tom (Valerie) Lichter of Iowa, Charlie Lichter of Virginia, Teresa (Steve) Conner of Virginia and Sharon Kahnke of Minnesota; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Art and Martha Lichter; sisters Genevieve Lichter and Bonnie Prather; brother Joe Lichter; and stepson Joseph Prieskorn.
