Stephen “Steve” D. Loger was born on Sept. 7, 1950, to Vernon and Margie (Deibert) Loger. He was raised in rural Odebolt, Iowa with his older sister Polly. He was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. He was a 1969 graduate of Odebolt-Arthur High School.

He married the love of his life, Debbie Sorensen, on Sept. 16, 1972 at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The couple lived on several farm places until 1983 when they purchased their forever home in Odebolt. They were blessed with three children: Mandy, who died in infancy; Joshua and Dathan.

Steve worked at Shinrone Farms, Farmers Cooperative Elevator and Lundell Plastics. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as an elder, deacon, trustee and nominating committee member, member of the choir, a youth advisorVBS helper and church janitor.

In addition, he served on the Odebolt Recreation Board, Odebolt Cemetery Board and as a volunteer Odebolt fireman. He and Debbie were members of Sioux City K-9 STARS and Loger Comfort Shelties. Through their volunteering with their shelties, they received the 2011 K-9 STARS Volunteer of the Year Award, the Jefferson Foundation Award, Sioux City Community School Friends of Education, 2020 Denison Community School Friends of Education Award and The Iowa State Education Association 2020 Friend of Education Award Winner. Though the awards were special to Steve, it was the people he met through Toby, Meeka, Sunday, Sage and Quinn that forever touched his life. He loved to let his light shine for God.

He loved his sons, their wives and seven grandchildren. He loved instilling a love of nature through hiking and biking with his kids and grandkids. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren sightseeing, taking them on Loger Comfort Sheltie visits to libraries, schools, Gigi’s Playhouse for Downs Syndrome Awareness, museums and parks. He dearly loved greeting kids arriving at the OABCIG Elementary/Middle School in Odebolt. He loved showing kids the need to love and respect each other. He despised bullies.
