Helen M. Lehmann, age 98, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Helen Marie Harms was born on July 20, 1915 in Plymouth County to Henry H. and Anna (Harms) Harms. She received her education in Plymouth County. After completing school she worked and helped her family on the farm.  Helen enjoyed playing softball as a catcher on the church youth group league.

On July 16, 1936 Helen was united in marriage to Harry Lehmann in Brunsville, Iowa. They made their home in LeMars, Iowa for several years and they were blessed with four children. The family moved to Battle Creek, Iowa where they farmed for many years.

Helen enjoyed the outdoors, alongside her husband she worked with livestock and helped with their feed truck delivery business and carpenter work. Harry and Helen managed the girl’s town softball team during the summer.

Helen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, fishing, gardening, playing cards, baking, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her 11 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.

In addition to being a homemaker and spending time with her family, she was employed at Heibers Grocery Store in Battle Creek and at Mid-Sioux Ind. in Ida Grove.

Helen was an honorary member of the Battle Creek Women’s Club and donated for the Lions Club and the Presbyterian Harvest Dinner.

Helen is survived by her four children and their spouses, Joan (Bryan) Grothe, Judy (Edward) Schmidt, Jerome (Janiece) Lehmann, and Dale Lehmann all of Battle Creek, Iowa; two sisters, Elnora Breitbarth, of Buna Park, California, Carla Schultz of Techachapi, California; sister-in-law, Gladys Harms of LeMars, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, and infant sister Joan; sisters, Jean (Herman) Wilken, Mae (James) Mertes and Lucille Harms; brothers, Harvey (Avis) Harms, Robert Harms; two sister-in-laws Lenora (Murl) Brown, Lucille (Les) Mattas; brother-in-laws, Clarence (Verna) Lehmann, Glen Breitbarth, Lloyd Schultz.
